Combative and martial arts

This is the last part of our definition of the COMBATIVES parameter.

I believe that some people will miss this point, but it must be emphasized that these materials are historical facts and are accurate in terms of substance and detail. It is a combative objective view, not a subjective opinion or an individual "definition" designed to fill one or the other.

The Battle of Britain began in early July 1940. England was isolated, cut off and alone. The miraculous retreat from Dunkirk and Germany's "blitzkrieg" across Europe, including the tactical defeat of the famous French "Magino Line", proved that the Third Empire war machine was almost unstoppable. Hitler's plan to invade England, called "Sea Lion Action," is the danger and focus of attention of the British daily.

Dunkirk destroyed the British army and morality was at its lowest point in history. Two British colonial veterans who recently returned from Shanghai, China, approached the war office and provided services at this desperate moment. William Ewart Fairbairn retires as an officer of the Shanghai Police Force, and his partner Eric Anthony Sykes is a private munition. Business, in the SMP as a "volunteer", and led the famous "sniper" troops of the Shanghai riot squad. The War Office promises that their training and methods can make "anyone equals ten people" in a short period of time. This is one of the most important and compelling statements after the collapse of Dunkirk. The initial dismissal was that the two men continued to prove the authenticity of their words and convinced the power of their method's absolute validity. If this means that W.E. Fairbairn, who is middle-aged or older, has to put a few young people in the hospital to prove that his point of view is impromptu, but a very realistic "demonstration", so that's it. Those who "tested" Sykes did not perform better. Therefore, the methods developed by these people in Shanghai's decades of very dangerous work are now a highly important and inseparable part of the training of all British troops and special operations personnel.

The attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, coupled with the Japanese Imperial Army's coordinated attacks on all US and British forces in the Pacific Rim, made the United States unwavering in this global fire. We are now fully engaged with the Axis forces. Fairbairn is now in Canada and is assigned to the notorious "X Camp" [with the "Unarmed Operations" expert WEF and George de Relwyskow is the Brazilian JUDO / JUJUTSU expert, um.... Colonel Carl Eifler has been successful Trained here] was ordered to assist the US government agency known as the Office of the Intelligence Coordinator as the predecessor of OSS. Eric Anthony Sykes stayed in England and found that his service needs were great. He also found himself working with the support of a British secret force known as the Special Operations Executive.

From the early days of Shanghai to the war years, the history of these people is a complete story, beyond the scope of this article. But it must be clearly recognized that the contributions of these people have had a profound impact and impact on melee methods, tactics and technology in the post-war decade. Although we often hear "argument" that we have "evolved" somehow beyond these methods, we will present this concept in the article in the future. However, they are certainly not the only "experts" in this field! An example [one of many] will be A.J. Drexel-Biddle's extensive research and training in boxing, Savate, Jiu Jitsu, swordsmanship, sword warfare and various bayonet methods.

As the United States prepares for the war, a major factor has begun to be advertised. Whether here or in Australia, the media has made a great contribution to the superiority of Japanese fighters. In fact, part of the reason is ingrained. A few decades ago, the turning point of the Japanese war was the Battle of Port Arthur, showing the world the tenacity and ferocity of Japanese soldiers, especially in close combat between people. Most Russian soldiers found a fiasco when they fought hand in hand with his small Japanese opponent [thus a very obvious boost to Sombo's creation]. Jiu Jiu has gained worldwide attention and fame in this regard. Japan's war in China has also shown the world a seemingly invincible and unstoppable force. Cruel and deadly power in extreme situations.

This has given so much attention to the training of the United States and the Allied forces, enabling ordinary soldiers to meet Japanese fighters on an equal basis. Each department of the armed forces has begun implementing intensive sports training programs designed to meet these needs. Most of the "expert" guidance required, especially in close combat between people, comes from civilian areas. People with rich and varied life experiences in various forms of "combat" are used to develop training programs that give allied soldiers sufficient means to get close to their enemies. Of course, the Axis also did this. Japan is a clear factor in this regard, but even Adolf Hitler claimed in the military training that he absolutely needs boxing and jujitsu because it gives the ordinary soldiers the courage and courage to shut down his enemies!

In the United States, there is a PLETHORA consisting of various methods and training systems. Any attempt to narrowly define the existing methods of this era is stupid! Although Lieutenant Colonel Fairbane contributed a lot, the influence of Colonel Applegate was also the same. DOZENS developed different close combat systems on DOZENS. Methods from wrestling, boxing, Savat, judo, jujitsu, Chinese boxing, and even football and rugby are not only utilized, but the entire "system" is based on these individual methods. Many people may be surprised, but in the US, even use Japanese KARATE!

Many of these "unarmed combat" courses are very complex and technical because they are rooted in the favor of those who are "created" by their mission. Wrestlers tend to rely on that method, judo men in the system, boxer expertise and more. Each method can also achieve amazing success in actual combat! The action report shows that all of these methods have advantages and can be used effectively under the harsh and stressful real battles. However, as the war progressed, two major factors began to influence and change these training programs. One reason is that more and more people from different backgrounds are being recruited for military service. Another reason is that as the demand for more and more replacement troops begins to increase, the amount of training time is bound to decrease and be limited.

The most feasible and useful way to look at it is to combine the "best" or most effective, most effective and fastest learning methods with the best methods! The boxing and wrestling chicks form part of the overall general body training program, and "unarmed fighting" becomes a specialized teaching block. These "unarmed operations", "one-on-one battles", "combat judo" and other courses once again seek to combine the most advantageous throwing, throwing, traveling, locking, strangling, striking, strike and kicking of various methods. . The only real limiting factor here is the TIME element. Other considerations are also important. O'Neill [another Shanghai veteran and Kodokan Yudansha ranking] method is a typical system that specifically targets the available training environment and the expected NATURE of combat participation. Some even tried to guide the army in the actual Koryu Jujutsu system in the United States! However, the most effective system still tries to mix all the different physical combat methods.

As the war progresses, more and more action "intelligence" is collected from the reality of actual combat, helping to shape and prioritize training. Many melee methods are beginning to be "cut" to those fundamentals that have proven to be most effective, and are best suited for all training of a wide variety of physical attributes and skills.

Due to his exposure in INFANTRY JOURNAL and the publication of "KILL or GET KILLED", Applegate is probably the most prestigious of these advocates. He is not without his critics, as is Fairbane.

Some courses last a short time and only involve a few hours of teaching. Others participated and completed the course content. Many people are familiar with the Navy's V-5 program and Benning's training, but little is known for the very extensive training in places like the Fort Meade and the Hawaii Jungle Complex, just two names! In these locations, training was conducted from Brooklyn to California, where a very complete and mixed "combat" project was taught. From the CIC Training Center in Chicago to the Army Training Camp in Colorado, the Ranger/Commando School from Parris Island to the Hawaiian Islands, from the former England training base at D-Day to the Palestinian Killing School, the method taught will be Humans are all used for "fighting" in human teeth and nails. From complexity to "instinct killing" [a method designed to take full advantage of the so-called natural "animal" killing instinct] all these methods, systems and methods fail under the definition of COMBATIVES! Even the OSS staff training in Area B also showed the SIAMESE boxing method [read Muay Thai]! From Anglo Boxing, Wrestling and Fighting, French "Battle Fight" [including Assaut Vite savate], Indian Varma-adi / Varmannie, Chinese Boxing, "Rome" Boxing, Japanese Judo / Jujutsu and Karate, Siam... .
