Cheap ideas for entertaining families and friends

For years, I have always been amazed at how people enjoy simple bonfires. My son and daughter have one in their backyard and use them in a year. As everyone knows, my grandchildren asked for a bonfire birthday party.

Both have pits that I call "free." They cleaned up a place in the bush, dug a small pit and placed a circle of stone around it. My daughter even used the logs to sit down. Since they all have wooded places near their homes, there is nothing to burn. There are always dead trees that fall or are cut down.

But if you don't have this asset, you can use one of these cheap ideas.

[1] Pick up dry branches when you are walking nearby

[2] Tightly rolled up newspapers: Wet your paper and divide them into 7-8 sheets, starting at one end and rolling tightly to the other end. Let them dry in the sun for a few days. You will be amazed at how long they will burn.

[3] Pay attention to the people who cut down the trees and ask if you can cut down the wood. Most people will allow you to carry as much as you can, especially if you are all smaller branches.

You always have to be careful to supervise the fire, especially when the children are nearby, but I find that most people sit for hours around the fire, talk or play music or just sit quietly. But you may want to try to bake some hot dogs on the stick [children like to find and make their own sticks] or turn one or two swamp browns into brown.

If you are having trouble starting the shot, place 2-3 swamp rings around the stake and match them. They are mostly sugar and are easy to burn. Their flames will start your paper faster, ignite or dry the wood. Soon you will eat and sing some happy bonfire songs.

If you want to add some pretty colors to the fire, you can buy a small 1-inch copper tube and cut a few slits in the middle of the pipe, then put an old water pipe into the copper pipe. Throw the pipe into the fire and watch the flames come alive. Plastic hoses will burn slowly but only if you are not cooking with fire. Chemicals in hoses and pipes are not good for you, so don't get close to the flames, don't cook on the flames. Its only beauty is vision.

Burning your home or going to the emergency room is no one thinking of cheap fun. In case of accident, please be close to the water source. You don't want Fire Marshall to visit, so check the burning laws in your area before a fire breaks out.
