Did you know that your home is not just a siding and paint? Of course, you may realize this, but you should also notice that your roof is also part of your home. After all, without a roof, the interior of your home will not be protected! [It's shocking, isn't it?]
So, it is very important to see your appearance in taking care of your home. This is not necessarily part of the basic to-do list you check weekly, but it should definitely be part of the quarterly list! By doing this, you can better identify problems outside your home and stay ahead of the curve before they are satisfied with the fix [or need to be replaced!].
If you are unfamiliar with home ownership, then determining what type of inspections you need outside the home can be stressful. So, to help, here is where you need to pay special attention:
-
Drains - Your ditch controls the rain to the outside of your home and protects your roof and the siding of your home. Make sure they are connected properly and will not sag anywhere. It is also important to clean them regularly so that no debris can accumulate. -
Paint - Take time to pay attention to whether you need to repair an area or call a professional paint crew. The state of the paint work/siding will be the first thing people notice. -
Siding - If you have a vinyl siding or one of its sister products, you will need to use a pressure sprayer to clean it regularly. -
Windows - Make sure these are not only clean, but can be turned on and off. -
Terrace or deck - Make sure the board is intact and any debris is removed. Not only does this look better, but it also prevents any damage caused by the organism/pest. Special attention to the windows and the area around the door - wood rot may occur. If you find damage near these locations, be sure to ask someone to check and determine what action to take. -
Roof / Herpes zoster - Walk around at home, paying attention to any areas where herpes zoster may have been pulled open or loose/missed. If you see anything, fix them before they fall off and expose your family to natural elements.
