UP Sangkil Karasak is an escrima club that started at the University of the Philippines Diliman and was officially recognized in 2003. It is dedicated to the study of Lightning Science [LSAI] style escrima / arnis, the most effective and popular style of arnis or escrima. LSAI was founded by the late master Benjamin Lema Luna, who is from Capiz in the Philippines. His special arnis style is characterized by long-range and high-power blows, as well as the main parts of the body, such as the legs and torso, using the power of the stick to strike. Another feature is called epada y daga technology, which uses long stick weapons and shorter weapons such as knives or open hands. This combination of weapons creates a fast alternating chain of attacks and can "cut" the opponent into pieces in a matter of seconds when executed correctly.
UP Sangkil Karasak was originally led by the masters of Benjamin Lema Luna, GuroElmer Ybañez, who studied sports at the University of the Philippines. Unfortunately, GuroElmer Ybañez died shortly after Mang Ben died in 2003. He died in March 2004.
After the death of Guro Elmer, UP Sangkil Karasak was subsequently led by his top students, including Felipe "Bot" Jocano, a professor of anthropology at the University of the Philippines, perhaps the most important scholar of history and different styles of arnis. Escrima. To this day, the club also disseminates knowledge about escrima art through exhibitions and free training trials.
One of the features of UP Sangkil Karasak is the ability to teach Arnis to ordinary college students, regardless of any martial arts background. The training is usually conducted in the Department of Military Science and Tactics, Diliman University of the Philippines, Lesson 2.
